Spinal Injections

Also called epidural injections or nerve blocks, spinal injections are used both therapeutically and diagnostically.

Dr. Burke offers several types of spinal injections in the clinic including epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, and sacroiliac joint injections.

Personalized Plans of Care

Injections are not one-size-fits-all.  Dr. Burke and his team will compile a full history of your spinal pain and do a comprehensive exam to determine which injection will help you the most.

No eating or drinking

Occasionally, an epidural will make our patients feel lightheaded or nauseous.  For this reason we ask all of our patients undergoing a procedure to have nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours prior to their procedure.

Requires a driver

To ensure your safety, we require all of our patients undergoing a procedure to have someone drive them home from the office.

Dress for Comfort

Pull on pants, such as gym pants, gym shorts, leggings, even pajama pants are the best clothing for in-office procedures because you will be laying on your stomach!

Blood Thinners

Please tell our clinical staff if you are taking blood thinners so we can discuss the need to stop these medications prior to your injection.  This includes a daily baby (81 mg) aspirin.

Prior Authorization

Prior authorization is often required by insurance before spinal injections can be performed.  This process can take up to two weeks.

Once obtained, the office will contact you to schedule.

Injections may include:

Epidural Steroid Injection

This injection delivers a corticosteroid and local anesthetic to the space surrounding the inflamed nerve in the epidural space.

Medial Branch Block

A “test injection” done twice prior to a radiofrequency ablation, this is an injection of local anesthetic into the facet joint of the spine.

Nerve Block

An injection of medication around or next to a specific nerve to block pain signals.
